Business/Commercial Plan
Business and Commerce aims and objectives
The aims and objectives of the plan are to help ensure that Keyworth has a thriving Business and Commercial sector that meets the needs of the community
Tesco have bought the empty development site on Selby Lane, formerly Wright's Garage, and are hoping to develop a store with about 70 parking spaces, creating around 70 full-time or part-time jobs.
They say, "If approved, the store would concentrate on food retailing and allow people who currently travel out of the village for their main food shopping to stay local, with consequent savings in time, travel costs and environmental benefit". Perhaps they haven't noticed we already have 3 supermarkets...? What about the jobs put at risk in other local shops?
In the Village Plan consultation, residents were asked: "What commercial developments would you like to see within Keyworth in the next 10-20 years?"
72.7% agreed or strongly agreed that they would like to see more small shops.
88.7% disagreed or strongly disagreed that they would like a new large supermarket.
Tesco are holding a public information meeting in the Platt Lane pavilion to outline their proposals. Please go along and have your say!
Tues 23 March: 11am to 7pm
Weds 24th March: 10am to 6pm
Members of the Tesco development team will be on hand to explain the proposals, seek input from local people and answer our questions.
We understand that no planning application has yet been made.
