Michael White (Mick)  Jenny and her family would like to say thank you to all their friends for their love and support during Michael's illness, to the many friends and colleagues who attended his funeral and to The Rev Wellington for the service. Your kind donations for the Myeloma Charity at The City Hospital are still coming in and to date amount to over £2,000. Jenny White

We are a group called The Friday Painting Club that has been running for many years in the Village Hall on Friday afternoons from 1pm to 4pm.  We have some vacancies and if you are looking to join a painting group then why not come along to the Village Hall on Friday the 13th January at 1pm.  We welcome beginners as well as those who just want to paint for pleasure. We have artists coming to demonstrate their skills on a fairly regular basis otherwise we just do our own thing. The fees are £30 for 11 weeks taking us up to 30th March 2012 with a break for half term.  For further information please contact Gloria Henderson 9147715 or Pat Harvey 9374855 (joint treasurers)

Bingham and District Choral Society  On Wednesday January 4th we start rehearsals for our 40th Anniversary Concert when we will perform ‘Child of our Time’ by Tippett with Mansfield Choral Society at the Albert Hall. New and returning members are welcome to join us at 7.15 pm. in Carnarvon School, Nursery Road, Bingham for our first and the following Wednesday rehearsals. If you enjoy singing or think you might try us out; remember singing is good for your health and there are no auditions to stress you!

Claridon Travel are relocating to 11 The Square, Keyworth, opposite the Co-operative. The contact details will remain the same.

Email Scams I’ve had a helpful email about checking for scams.   I’m afraid many of us forward these without thinking, and a few minutes spent checking would reduce the number of messages circulating on the Internet.   All you need to do is copy a portion of the text of the e-mail (maybe a sentence or two), and then put it into a search engine like Google which will bring up the research websites. Snopes.com or Hoaxslayer which will normally have traced these scams to their origins. You will then know if you need to be concerned or not.                                               Thank you Tracey. Ed

And just a thought - are you sure that all your email contacts are happy for you to reveal their emails to each other when you forward to everyone on your list?    Using the Blind Copy facility will avoid this.

SCOUT AND GUIDE CHRISTMAS POST - RAISING MONEY FOR THE NEW MAGGIE’S CENTRE AT THE CITY HOSPITAL.   We have had another successful Post, raising over £620 for Maggie’s Centre which supports all those affected by cancer.   That’s around 3100 items sorted and delivered in Keyworth and Stanton by young people and their families involved in Guiding and Scouting in the Village, and of course, Scouters and Guiders.

We met the usual challenges - incomplete addresses, most of which we tracked down - and cards to Strelley, Tollerton, Wysall and Ruddington, which we had to put GPO stamps on.   We failed on cards for Mr & Mrs Thomas, Dr & Mrs Thomas and Mrs Fisher which had no address or stamps on them.   If you recognise these as yours, please phone Bernice on 937 5855.

Many thanks to Bob Green, Johnsons, Village Hair. the Library and Sainsbury’s for having boxes and selling stamps, and everyone who supported the Post.
