Healthy Living Festival 2008 launched
Family fun, races and a chance to learn more about leading a healthier lifestyle will all be on offer at the Healthy Living Festival 2008 being held at
After a successful debut event last year, the festival returns bigger and better than before. Principia, Partners in Health has teamed up with Rushcliffe Borough Council to host a range of fun family activities on June 15 from 9am-3pm.
Bring a picnic and try out a host of sports and games. There will be music from Nottingham Samba Band and the chance to chat with local health experts. You can walk your way to health through the Walk For Health scheme and find out about regular activities in the country park.
If you fancy a bit more of a challenge, the festival is also hosting 10km, 3 mile and family fun runs. Members of the public can sign up to take part in the races which start from 10.30am with a warm-up at 10am.Last year more than 300 runners took part helping to raise £7,000 for the Kenyan Orphan Project. The charity is being supported again by this year’s event.
Vicky Bailey, general manager for Principia, said: “Last year’s festival and run proved so popular that we’ve decided to make it an annual event. This year promises to be even better and as it falls on Father’s Day we’re hoping to encourage lots of dads to bring their families down, have fun and get fit.”
Principia is a social enterprise which brings together all the family doctors, community nurses, therapists, other health practitioners and managers along with patients in Rushcliffe to decide on and deliver local health services and improve the health of the community. It is supported in doing this by Nottinghamshire County Teaching Primary Care Trust, and has been recognised by the Department of Health for its innovative approach.
